Welcome to Soroptimists International Ghana
Soroptimist International is a worldwide organization of professional women from all disciplines, working together to enhance the education and status of women and girls as well as the professional and leadership roles of women.
SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL (Sl) is a global women’s organization whose members are professional and businesswomen working together to transform the lives of women and girls the world over. We work at the local, national and international levels through service projects to Educate, Empower and Enable women and girls. Soroptimist International Club of Accra is a member of this larger group. Until April 2020 the Club was under the SI Europe Federation (SIE). With the birth of the Africa Federation, SI Club of Accra becomes a member of SI African Federation (SIAF).
Soroptimist International Club of Accra (Sl Accra) was inaugurated on 8 March 1985 to carry out the Sl mandate of Educating, Empowering and Enabling the less fortunate women and girls in our communities.
The Club, through its volunteer work, actively contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals through empowering local communities to create their own transformative change. By supporting communities to identify their needs and promote their unique innovations we help them at the basic level, to address these needs and achieve the goals for sustainable development. For the most part the SDG’s which our work helps to address are the following:
- SDG 3 – Good health and well-being
- SDG 4 – Quality Education
- SDG 5 – Gender Equality
- SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation
- SDG 13 – Climate Action
Over the years, Sl Accra has undertaken a number of projects that have benefited a lot of women and girls in our less-endowed communities. Through these projects we have provided social interventions and amenities to communities at the following locations: Assin Kyinaso (Central Region)|, Abokobi, Maale Dada, La-Bawaleshie (Greater Accra), six communities in Akuapem South, Dodowa (Eastern Region):
- sanitation facilities
- boreholes
- educational materials
- school library
- advocacy
- health screening and assistance
- day care centre
